Custom Illustration

Jackie is currently on sick leave!

I’ve injured my wrist fighting off ninja kittens, and I need to take a break to let my tendons heal!

(Actually, I just developed Carpel Tunnel syndrome from overexerting myself ;) Fighting off ninja kittens just sounds more heroic.)

I’ll be back to work in a few months!

FAQ

I’m not really in to the work you have in your portfolio. Can you still illustrate for me if I want something with a different look/feel/style/etc.?

Absolutely! The work you see in my portfolio is the stuff I do for personal projects and commission work I receive outside of Laycock Designs. As a formally-trained artist, I have a comprehensive knowledge of art and design theory and have the ability to change my illustrative style based on my client’s needs. Feel free to chat me up if you would like to discuss your project before requesting a quote!

Why don’t you offer flat-rate pricing anymore?

There are two reasons why I no longer offer flat-rate pricing:

  1. My creation process. I’m dedicated to giving my clients work that they’re excited to show off, so I use a number of different methods and media to accomplish the goals the client gives me. This process is very labor-intensive and requires me to use all of my experience as an illustrator to give you the best work I am capable of.
  2. No two projects are the same. Some projects will take an hour or two to complete, while others will take 30-40 hours to finish. Some clients will request several revisions while others will accept the first draft I send their way. For this reason, I must tailor the price of each project to fit the needs of the client.

Why do you limit the number of jobs you accept every month?

Because there are only 32 hours in the Freelancer’s Workday and I like to sleep sometimes :)

In all seriousness, I need to limit the amount of work I do every month because I want to do the best job I possibly can for my clients. It also helps me manage my time a little bit better so I can complete your illustration work as quickly as possible.

How many jobs DO you accept every month?

That depends entirely on the workload that comes my way. Since I accept work on a first-come, first-serve, first-paid basis, the amount of work I can take on every month will vary. To get an idea of how long my waiting list is, just check the top of this page for the “Now accepting work for…” field.
